Imagine the Treasure is an original Bounty Bay sea shanty project combining music, artwork, storytelling, and animation. This page follows the creative journey behind the song, from lyrics and melody to artwork, characters, and visual experiments.
Where it began
Imagine the Treasure began many years ago as a simple pirate poem written for my children. At the time, it was just a fun story inspired by adventure, treasure maps, distant horizons, and the excitement of setting sail into the unknown.

Like many creative ideas, it sat quietly for a long time. Every now and then I would come back to it, make a small change, or wonder what else it might become.
Years later, I found myself revisiting the poem with fresh eyes. The words still felt right, but this time I could hear music behind them. What started as a children’s poem slowly began to take shape as an original sea shanty.
That journey is still continuing today, as Imagine the Treasure evolves through music, artwork, storytelling, and animation under the Bounty Bay banner.

The Song
Once the lyrics were taking shape, the next challenge was finding a melody that felt true to the spirit of a sea shanty while remaining an original piece of music.
The version below was created using AI-assisted music tools, but it wasn’t simply a case of pressing a button. Alongside the lyrics, I experimented with ideas by providing rough recordings of humming, whistling, some rather questionable singing, and even a little improvised drumming to help shape the direction of the song.
It remains a work in progress, but this recording captures much of the atmosphere and sense of adventure that I imagined when writing the original poem many years ago.
Bringing It to Life
From Song to Story
As the sea shanty began to take shape, I started exploring ways to bring it to life visually. One idea was a playful animation inspired by the popular plank exercise challenge — with a suitably pirate twist.

Building the Crew
The project quickly grew beyond the music. Using a mixture of artwork, image editing and experimentation, the Bounty Bay crew began to take shape, ready for their sunset workout on the dockside planks.

Frame by Frame
Working with an older version of Photoshop, I built the animation frame by frame, moving each character individually and testing different poses, timings and transitions.

The Creative Process
Like many Bounty Bay projects, Plank Perfect was created through experimentation, trial and error, and a willingness to see where an idea might lead. It remains a work in progress, but it has already become an enjoyable part of the Imagine the Treasure journey.

What’s Next?
The song, artwork and animation are all continuing to evolve. Future updates may include new visuals, refined animation, additional recordings, and perhaps even more original sea shanties sailing under the Bounty Bay flag. ⚓🎵🏴☠️
